Kaziranga National Park – A Prominent Indian National Park
Kaziranga National Park is one of prominent national parks in India. It is located in Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam, India. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is globally noted for a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles and vegetations. It is very famous for great one-horned rhinoceroses, rare royal Bengal tigers, Indian elephants, swamp deer and wild water buffalos. Kaziranga National Park has a vast expanse of alluvial inundated grasslands, tropical moist mixed deciduous forests, alluvial savanna woodlands, and tropical semi-evergreen forests. Common tall grasses found in the park are sugarcanes, elephant grass, spear grass and common reed. Dense forests of Kaziranga consist of evergreen trees and semi-evergreen trees. There are also many different aquatic floras in the lakes, ponds and along the river shores in Kaziranga.
There are about 35 significant species of mammals found in this park. It is the home to the world's largest population of the great Indian one-horned rhinos, eastern swamp deer, and wild Asiatic water buffalo. The park also has significant population of endangered royal Bengal tigers, leopards, Indian elephants, gaur, horse deer, Indian Muntjac, wild boar, hog deer, etc. Other animals found in this park are jungle cats, leopard cats, fishing cats, Bengal foxes, golden jackals, golden langurs, small Indian civets, sloth bear, Indian gray mongoose, small Indian mongooses, large Indian civets, hispid hare, hog badger, Indian pangolins, apes, etc. One can also see Ganges dolphins at Kaziranga's river. This park is also famous among bird-watchers. The park is a home to a large variety of birds. It was once home to seven species of vultures.
