Getting The Lowdown On Canadian History
Canada’s beautiful land is located in North America. Canada can be captured in one line as Amari Usque Ad Mare which means from sea to sea denoting the country’s wide spread from the Atlantic to Pacific to Arctic Ocean. It shares the world’s longest border with United States of America and is the second largest country of world with respect to area. The large land of Canada is reflected in its grand history.
The History of Canada can be tracked back to Pre-Columbian era of Paleo-Indians and Archaic periods. The research studies of North American archeology and Aboriginal genetic state that 50,000-17000 year ago, the lowering of sea levels during Wisconsin glaciations enabled people to move across Bering land bridge. Then after approximately 1000 years later, the glaciers started melting and allowed people to enter the south and east of Canada. After another 6000 years, i.e. 10000 years ago, the climate of North America stabilized but still had large pieces of land covered with glacial ice sheets. Many of the population groups were extremely mobile hunters yet some of the individual groups studied the locally available resources
The post-Archaic period or woodland culture period of Canadian history stayed from the 2000BCE to 1000CE. Hopewell tradition was an Aboriginal culture and it connected the people and cultures on the Canadian shores of Lake Ontario. Canadian land was mainly occupied by tribal Indians for some years. Studies reveal that the 500CE era of Paleo Eskimos gave way to the ancestry of contemporary Inuit in 1500CE.
The first arrival of Europeans in Canada is dated back to 1000AD when Vikings colonized there briefly. After the failure of this colonization Giovanni Cobato- an Italian seaman- made another effort in 1497. After that several European individuals and groups continued to discover the land till 1610 when 13 colonies were formed in the south by the English. Then came the European period of Canadian exploration signified by treaties, colonies, wars etc. The Britain and US war of 1812 on the Canadian borders led many British and Irish people into Canada. After a number of constitutional arrangements, among which The Act of Union 1840 that amalgamated the Canada into the united Province of Canada was a major one, the constitution Act 1867 officially proclaimed the Canadian Federation.
Canada was automatically sent into WWI after the British declaration of war. The Canadian corps played an important role in Battle of Vimy Ridge and other major battles. Canada joined League of Nations in 1919 autonomously. The Statue of Westminster avowed Canada’s independence in 1931. The WWII saw Canada fighting against Germany immediately after Britain.
A new Canadian individuality materialized by the policies of subsequent liberal governments, marked by the adaptation of existing Maple Leaf in the year 1965.
